The isoelectric point (pI, pH(I), IEP), is the pH at which a molecule carries no net electrical charge or is electrically neutral in the statistical mean. The standard nomenclature to represent the isoelectric point is pH(I). However, pI is also used. For brevity, this article uses pI. The net charge on the molecule is affected by pH of its surrounding environment and can become more positively or negatively charged due to the gain or loss, respectively, of protons (H ). WebbThis is due to the electrostatic interactions established between the carboxyl and amine groups for the LYS substitution and the pi–pi stacking in the case of TRP. In fact, some snapshots showed pi–pi interactions between the rings of the NBD and the TRP, and evidenced the backfolding of some of the terminal groups toward the interior of the …

WebbFor simple amino acids such as alanine, the pI is an average of the pK a 's of the carboxyl (2.34) and ammonium (9.69) groups. Thus, the pI for alanine is calculated to be: (2.34 + 9.69)/2 = 6.02, the experimentally determined value. If additional acidic or basic groups are present as side-chain functions, the pI is the average of the pK a 's ... WebbIn the ENR-FLuc system, Phe194 and Phe250 provided a more favorable contribution to the binding, and the indole rings of the two amino acid residues form a face-to-face π-π stacking interaction with the diazohexane ring structure of the ENR antibiotic, thereby increasing the van der Waals forces of binding, which is directly responsible for the …
