WebJun 15, 2004 · An h23's are non vtec's, h22's are vtec's. You can put a h22 head on it but from what i heard it's not worth it. It seems like it would be a killer combo, maybe the guy I was talking to did something wrong. He said he would never do it again. Think about it, h23 block that redlines at 6500ish and a motor h22 that redlines at 7500ish, you do math on work. It has been done, but that's not a very popular swap IMO... The head swap thing is not all that good of an idea to me, just IMO. And no, you need more parts than what you listed. The oil distribution throughout the engine becomes a problem when doing this head swap, unless you know what your doing.
