WebMar 9, 2024 · It seems that 30mm tubes get the .308 out to 1000yards with 0 MOA bases. The 1" tubes like Nikons Buck master scopes only has enough adjustment to get them to around 500 yards if my memory is right. So my question is how did John Unertl get a 1" tube to have enough elevation to get a .308 to 1000 yards with the USMC scope? WebIt doesn't automatically get you a better scope; in fact, a 30mm scope might be an advance to the rear. It does give you a stronger, but heavier, tube. Mainly, it allows for more internal adjustment range, which is the real motive behind 30mm tubes. Fine if you need it, but if you don't it is of no value.
